"**How High**" is a song by American [hip hop](/source/Hip_hop_music) duo [Method Man & Redman](/source/Method_Man_%26_Redman), released on August 15, 1995, as the duo's first single. It was originally featured on the [soundtrack to the 1995 hip hop documentary film](/source/The_Show_(soundtrack)), *[The Show](/source/The_Show_(1995_film))*, and has since appeared on several compilation albums such as *[The Hip Hop Box](/source/The_Hip_Hop_Box)* and *Def Jam's Greatest Hits*, among several others. The song, [produced](/source/Hip_hop_production) by [Erick Sermon](/source/Erick_Sermon), is the first official collaboration from longtime friends and [East Coast rappers](/source/East_Coast_hip_hop) [Method Man](/source/Method_Man) of [Wu-Tang Clan](/source/Wu-Tang_Clan) and [Redman](/source/Redman_(rapper)) of [Def Squad](/source/Def_Squad), marking their debut as a duo. The song performed exceptionally well commercially, reaching number 13 on the US [*Billboard* Hot 100](/source/Billboard_Hot_100) chart. The single has since been [certified gold](/source/RIAA_certification) by the [Recording Industry Association of America](/source/Recording_Industry_Association_of_America) (RIAA).[1]

## Legacy

Redman's vocals on the third [verse](/source/Verse_(popular_music)) was [sampled](/source/Sampling_(music)) on American electro house DJ [Armand Van Helden](/source/Armand_Van_Helden)'s 1996 single, "[The Funk Phenomena](/source/The_Funk_Phenomena)". The song was later sampled on Guilty Simpson's "Yikes!".

## Remix and sequel

The duo later [remixed](/source/Remix) the song and included it on their collaborative debut album *[Blackout!](/source/Blackout!_(Method_Man_%26_Redman_album))* (1999), as well as the [soundtrack to their 2001 film](/source/How_High_(soundtrack)), *[How High](/source/How_High)*. The "How High (Remix)", has a stripped-down sound and contains [samples](/source/Sampling_(music)) from "Fly Robin Fly", as performed by [Silver Convention](/source/Silver_Convention) and "I Am Woman", as performed by [The Cover Girls](/source/The_Cover_Girls). This remix was also used in the official music video for the song that was released in the fall of 1995.

Also featured on the soundtrack was the song's sequel, simply titled "Part II". It was released as a single in 2001, in promotion for the film. The song samples American [R&B](/source/Contemporary_R%26B) singer-songwriter [Toni Braxton](/source/Toni_Braxton)'s "[You're Makin' Me High](/source/You're_Makin'_Me_High)" and peaked at number 72 on the US *Billboard* Hot 100 chart.
