**Horninghold** is a small village and parish seven miles north-east of [Market Harborough](/source/Market_Harborough) in the county of [Leicestershire](/source/Leicestershire). The population of the [civil parish](/source/Civil_parish) (including [Allexton](/source/Allexton) and [Stockerston](/source/Stockerston)) was 278 at the 2021 census.[1]

The village's name means 'wood belonging to the people of Horning'.[2]

Following the [Norman Conquest](/source/Norman_Conquest) in 1066 the village was given to [Robert de Todeni](/source/Robert_de_Todeni), Lord of [Belvoir](/source/Belvoir,_Leicestershire). In about 1076 he gave the parish to [Belvoir Priory](/source/Belvoir_Priory) where it remained until the [Dissolution of the Monasteries](/source/Dissolution_of_the_Monasteries) in the 16th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, the estate owners, the Hardcastle family remodelled the village as a garden village with many trees and shrubs.

The church of St Peter is a [Grade II* listed building](/source/Grade_II*_listed_building).[3] It was built in the 12th century and is a surviving example of a [Church of England parish church](/source/Church_of_England_parish_church) without [Victorian restoration](/source/Victorian_restoration).[4]
