==Name==
Honenu's name derives from [Psalm 123](/source/Psalm_123): “Favor us [''Honenu''], [Hashem](/source/Hashem), favor us, for we are fully sated with contempt.”<ref name='about' />

==Activities==
Most of Honenu's budget goes towards legal aid.<ref name='ynet' /> Honenu's national profile increased during the 2005 [Israeli disengagement from the Gaza Strip](/source/Israeli_disengagement_from_the_Gaza_Strip), when the organization provided legal representation to many protestors.<ref name='ynet' /> The bulk of its clients since then have been young Israeli settlers ([hilltop youth](/source/hilltop_youth)) detained after confrontations with Palestinians or the Israeli security services.<ref name='ynet' /> Honenu has also represented Israeli soldiers and [Border Police](/source/Israel_Border_Police) officers under investigation for incidents that occurred on duty.<ref name='ynet' /> The organization also provides legal counsel to prisoners and financial aid to their families--this has included the families of [Yigal Amir](/source/Yigal_Amir) and [Ami Popper](/source/Ami_Popper).<ref name='ynet' /> It has also provided legal counsel to the families of people killed in terrorist attacks.<ref name='ynet' />

==Funding==
In 2019 ''[Ynet](/source/Ynet)'' reported that Honenu's annual donations exceeded 4 million [shekel](/source/Israeli_new_shekel)s.<ref name='ynet' /> In its early years, about half of its funding came from the United States.<ref name='ynet' /> In 2010 it began receiving funding from the [Central Fund of Israel](/source/Central_Fund_of_Israel), which gave Honenu 1.135 million shekels in 2015.<ref name='ynet' />
