***Homemade Christmas*** is an EP by American drag queen [Trixie Mattel](/source/Trixie_Mattel), released on December 1, 2017.[1][2]

## Background and release

Brian Michael Firkus, better known by the stage name Trixie Mattel, competed in the [seventh season](/source/RuPaul's_Drag_Race_(season_7)) of *[RuPaul's Drag Race](/source/RuPaul's_Drag_Race)* in 2015. After appearing on *Drag Race*, Mattel appeared in the web series *[UNHhhh](/source/UNHhhh)* on [WOWPresents](/source/World_of_Wonder_(production_company)) with fellow season seven contestant [Katya Zamolodchikova](/source/Katya_Zamolodchikova), known mononymously as Katya. The duo later went on to star in *[The Trixie & Katya Show](/source/The_Trixie_%26_Katya_Show)*, which premiered on [Viceland](/source/Viceland) on November 15, 2017.[3][4]

Prior to *Homemade Christmas*, Trixie Mattel released the country album *[Two Birds](/source/Two_Birds_(album))* in May 2017. Katya appears on the holiday EP, which was released on December 1, 2017 via [Apple Music](/source/Apple_Music), [iTunes](/source/ITunes), and [Spotify](/source/Spotify).[1]

## Composition

*Homemade Christmas* includes three acoustic tracks of holiday music. Lyrically, "Christmas Without You" is about loneliness during the season.[1] "The Night Before Contact" is a parody of "[A Visit from St. Nicholas](/source/A_Visit_from_St._Nicholas)" (more commonly known as "'Twas the Night Before Christmas"), performed by Katya.[1] "All I Want for Christmas Is Nudes" is a parody of [Mariah Carey](/source/Mariah_Carey)'s "[All I Want for Christmas Is You](/source/All_I_Want_for_Christmas_Is_You)".[5][6]

## Reception

*[Instinct](/source/Instinct_(magazine))'*s David Lopez said "Christmas Without You" was reminiscent of Trixie Mattel's previous studio album. He said of "The Night Before Contact": "Personally, after hearing this, I think Katya could be the new voice of the omnipresent narrator if they ever remade *How the Grinch Stole Christmas!*"[1]
