This article is about the district of Luxembourg City. For the cardinal, see [Jean-Claude Hollerich](/source/Jean-Claude_Hollerich).

**Hollerich** (ˈhɔləʁɪç; Luxembourgish: *Hollerech*, ˈholəʀəɕ) is a [district](/source/Districts_of_Luxembourg_City) in south-western [Luxembourg City](/source/Luxembourg_City), in southern [Luxembourg](/source/Luxembourg).

As of 31 December 2025, the district has a population of 7,751 inhabitants.[1]

[Hollerich railway station](/source/Hollerich_railway_station) is located on [CFL](/source/Chemins_de_Fer_Luxembourgeois) [Line 70](/source/Line_70), which connects Luxembourg City to the south-west of the country. Hollerich station is only 600 metres to the south-west of the country's main terminus, [Luxembourg railway station](/source/Luxembourg_railway_station), and just to the west of a major [junction](/source/Junction_(rail)) that separates traffic exiting Luxembourg station to the south.[citation needed] The urban park [Parc Merl](/source/Parc_Merl) is located on its border with [Belair](/source/Belair,_Luxembourg).

## Education

The [Campus Geesseknäppchen](/source/Campus_Geessekn%C3%A4ppchen), the largest educational campus in Luxembourg City, is located within the district. Five educational establishments are premised on the site; the [Athénée de Luxembourg](/source/Ath%C3%A9n%C3%A9e_de_Luxembourg), the [International School of Luxembourg](/source/International_School_of_Luxembourg), [Lycée Aline Mayrisch](/source/Lyc%C3%A9e_Aline_Mayrisch), the [Lycée Michel Rodange](/source/Lyc%C3%A9e_Michel_Rodange), the [Lycée Technique École de Commerce et de Gestion](/source/Lyc%C3%A9e_Technique_%C3%89cole_de_Commerce_et_de_Gestion)) and the [Conservatoire de Luxembourg](/source/Conservatoire_de_Luxembourg). The campus boasts a number of shared facilities, including an [Olympic size swimming pool](/source/Olympic_size_swimming_pool).[citation needed]

## Commune

Hollerich was first mentioned in a document in the 10th century.[2] In the course of the French administrative reorganisation of 1796, it achieved the status of a separate commune.[2] In 1859, Luxembourg's railway station was built on the commune's territory.[2] This facilitated its modern development from a farming village located at the [Pétrusse](/source/P%C3%A9trusse) and the road towards [Esch](/source/Esch-sur-Alzette), to an important industrial site in front of the gates of Luxembourg City.[2]

Soon, the commune attracted industries due to its good infrastructure: the iron industry with Paul Würth from 1891, champagne production with Mercier as well as the tobacco producer Heinz von Landewyck, to name only a few.[2]

Hollerich was a [commune](/source/Communes_of_Luxembourg) in the [canton](/source/Cantons_of_Luxembourg) of [Luxembourg](/source/Luxembourg_(canton)) until 26 March 1920, when it was merged into the [city](/source/List_of_cities_in_Luxembourg) of Luxembourg, along with [Hamm](/source/Hamm,_Luxembourg) and [Rollingergrund](/source/Rollingergrund).[3] At the time of the merger, Hollerich was the third most populous commune in Luxembourg behind Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette, with a population of 15,402 as of 1916.[4] From 7 April 1914 until the dissolution of the commune, the part of the commune encompassing the urban areas of Hollerich and [Bonnevoie](/source/Bonnevoie) was afforded the title of [city](/source/List_of_cities_in_Luxembourg). The title was not conferred upon all of the commune; the part that was granted the title was officially styled '[Hollerich-Bonnevoie](/source/Hollerich-Bonnevoie)'.[5]

It is also the location of [Den Atelier](/source/Den_Atelier), a music venue.
