The **Hoel Mountains** are a group of mountains including the [Weyprecht Mountains](/source/Weyprecht_Mountains) and the [Payer Mountains](/source/Payer_Mountains) in [Queen Maud Land](/source/Queen_Maud_Land), Antarctica. They were first photographed from the air and plotted by the [Third German Antarctic Expedition](/source/Third_German_Antarctic_Expedition) (1938–39), mapped by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by the [Sixth Norwegian Antarctic Expedition](/source/Sixth_Norwegian_Antarctic_Expedition) (1956–60) and named for [Adolf Hoel](/source/Adolf_Hoel), a Norwegian geologist and Arctic explorer, leader and member of many expeditions to [Greenland](/source/Greenland) and [Spitsbergen](/source/Spitsbergen) since 1907.[1]
