It is located in the village of [Hitterdalen](/source/Hitterdalen), about {{convert|15|km}} northeast of the [town of Røros](/source/R%C3%B8ros_(town)). It is the church for the Hitterdalen [parish](/source/parish) which is part of the [Gauldal prosti](/source/Gauldal_prosti) ([deanery](/source/deanery)) in the [Diocese of Nidaros](/source/Diocese_of_Nidaros). The brown, wooden church was built in a [long church](/source/long_church) style in 1959 using plans drawn up by the [architect](/source/architect) [John Egil Tverdahl](/source/John_Egil_Tverdahl). The church seats about 130 people.
