# Hisingsbron

**Hisingsbron** (the Hisingen Bridge) is a [vertical-lift bridge](/source/Vertical-lift_bridge) in central [Gothenburg](/source/Gothenburg), [Sweden](/source/Sweden), connecting the island of [Hisingen](/source/Hisingen) to the mainland. The bridge was constructed between 2017 and 2021, replacing the [Götaälvbro](/source/G%C3%B6ta%C3%A4lvbron),[2] and was inaugurated on 5 September 2021 by [King Carl XVI Gustaf](/source/Carl_XVI_Gustaf_of_Sweden).[4]
