# Highfield Square

**Highfield Square**, also known as **Highfield Square Shopping Centre**, is a [shopping centre](/source/Shopping_mall) located in [Moncton](/source/Moncton), [New Brunswick](/source/New_Brunswick), Canada. Highfield Square was owned and operated by [Crombie REIT](/source/Crombie_REIT) before being sold to the city of Moncton. Demolition began in August 2014.[3]

## Aftermath

The property has been converted to the [Avenir Centre](/source/Avenir_Centre).

## History

The mall contained at its peak over 60 stores and services. The major anchor during its lifetime included:

- [Hudson's Bay](/source/Hudson's_Bay_(retailer)), previously [Eatons](/source/Eatons)
- [Sobeys](/source/Sobeys)
- [The Met](/source/Metropolitan_Stores)
- [Shoppers Drug Mart](/source/Shoppers_Drug_Mart)

Other prominent tenants included [RadioShack](/source/RadioShack), and [Reitmans](/source/Reitmans).

After the mall closed its movie theatres in the 1970s, it converted the area into a large [food court](/source/Food_court) with many restaurants, such as [Pizza Delight](/source/Pizza_Delight), [A&W](/source/A%26W_(Canada)), [Deluxe](/source/Deluxe_(restaurant)), [Tim Hortons](/source/Tim_Hortons), and [Ed's Sub](/source/Ed's_Sub). The mall mascot was **Hifie the Bear**.
