# Hermann Warm

German art director (1889–1976)

**Hermann Warm** was a [German](/source/German_people) art director for films. Born in 1889 (died 1976) in [Berlin, Germany](/source/Berlin%2C_Germany), Warm was an important figure in the [expressionist movement](/source/Expressionism) of the 1920s. Warm entered the [German film](/source/Cinema_of_Germany) industry in 1912 after working on-stage for a while. As well as doing set work on films such as *[The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari](/source/The_Cabinet_of_Dr._Caligari)* and [Fritz Lang](/source/Fritz_Lang)'s *[Destiny](/source/Destiny_(1921_film))*, Warm also worked with [Danish](/source/Danish_people) [film director](/source/Film_director) [Carl Theodor Dreyer](/source/Carl_Theodor_Dreyer) on films including *[The Passion of Joan of Arc](/source/The_Passion_of_Joan_of_Arc)* and *[Vampyr](/source/Vampyr)*. During [World War II](/source/World_War_II), Warm lived in [Switzerland](/source/Switzerland) and returned to Germany in 1947.[1][2]
