# Herman Watts

**Herman "Lefty" Watts** (December 18, 1919 – September 14, 1960) was an American [baseball](/source/Baseball) [pitcher](/source/Pitcher) in the [Negro leagues](/source/Negro_league_baseball). He played in 1941 with the [New York Black Yankees](/source/New_York_Black_Yankees) [Jacksonville Red Caps](/source/Jacksonville_Red_Caps), and in 1942 with the [Cincinnati Buckeyes](/source/Cleveland_Buckeyes). Watts was involved in a car accident on September 7, 1942.[1] [Ulysses Brown](/source/Ulysses_Brown) and [Smoky Owens](/source/Smoky_Owens) died, while Watts, [Eugene Bremmer](/source/Eugene_Bremmer), [Alonzo Boone](/source/Alonzo_Boone), and [Wilbur Hayes](/source/Wilbur_Hayes) were injured.[2]

Watts returned to Indianapolis, becoming combination player-manager of the [Indianapolis ABCs](/source/Indianapolis_ABCs).[3]
