# Hergot Chapel

**Hergot Chapel** (Norwegian: *Hergot kapell*) is a [chapel](/source/Chapel) of the [Church of Norway](/source/Church_of_Norway) in [Narvik Municipality](/source/Narvik_Municipality) in [Nordland](/source/Nordland) county, [Norway](/source/Norway). It is located in the village of [Hergot](/source/Hergot). It is an [annex chapel](/source/Annex_chapel) in the Narvik [parish](/source/Parish) which is part of the [Ofoten prosti](/source/Ofoten_prosti) ([deanery](/source/Deanery)) in the [Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland](/source/Diocese_of_S%C3%B8r-H%C3%A5logaland). The white, wooden chapel was built in a [long church](/source/Churches_in_Norway#Floor_plan) style in 2005 to replace the old [Straumsnes Chapel](/source/Straumsnes_Chapel) in nearby [Straumsnes](/source/Straumsnes,_Narvik).[1][2]

## History

A chapel was built in [Straumsnes](/source/Straumsnes,_Narvik) in 1927 to serve the people living around the [Rombaken](/source/Rombaken) fjord. In 2005, a new chapel was built in [Hergot](/source/Hergot), about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to the northeast, to replace the old chapel in Straumsnes. The new chapel is located at the site of the local cemetery. The foundation stone was laid in 1999 and the church was [consecrated](/source/Consecrate) on 27 August 2005. In 2009, a free-standing bell tower was built next to the chapel.[3]
