# Herbert Simpson

**Herbert Simpson** (29 September 1863 – 29 December 1929) was an English [footballer](/source/Association_football) who made three appearances in [the Football League](/source/The_Football_League) playing for [Lincoln City](/source/Lincoln_City_F.C.) as a [left back](/source/Left_back).[2] Simpson played in Lincoln City's first [FA Cup](/source/FA_Cup) match, in 1884, was part of the team that won the inaugural [Midland League](/source/Midland_Football_League_(1889)) title in 1889–90, and represented the club in their first season in the Football League, in [1892–93](/source/1892%E2%80%9393_Football_League).[1]
