==Biography==
Born in [Saddleworth](/source/Saddleworth), [Yorkshire](/source/Yorkshire), Nield was admitted a solicitor in 1885, called to the bar at the [Inner Temple](/source/Inner_Temple) in 1895 and 'took silk' as a King's Counsel in 1913.<ref name='wgm'>{{cite news|title=Death of Sir Herbert Nield|newspaper=West Middlesex Gazette|date=15 October 1932|page=15}}</ref>

In 1895 he was elected to [Middlesex County Council](/source/Middlesex_County_Council) as a representative of [Tottenham](/source/Tottenham). In 1906 he was created a county [alderman](/source/alderman) and remained a member of the council until his death.<ref name='wgm'/>

Nield was elected as [member of parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament_(United_Kingdom)) (MP) for [Ealing constituency](/source/Ealing_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) at the [1906 general election](/source/1906_United_Kingdom_general_election), and held the seat until he retired from the [House of Commons](/source/British_House_of_Commons) at the [1931 general election](/source/1931_United_Kingdom_general_election).<ref name="Craig">{{cite book |last=Craig |first=F. Appointed a [deputy lieutenant](/source/deputy_lieutenant) of [Middlesex](/source/Middlesex) in 1912,<ref>{{London Gazette | issue=28593 |page=2215 | date=26 March 1912}}</ref> he was knighted in 1918<ref>{{cite news | title = New Year Honours. Nield was twice married. He died on 11 October 1932 and his body was interred in the Cory-Wright Mausoleum on the western side of [Highgate Cemetery](/source/Highgate_Cemetery).
