A '''heptagraph''' (from {{langx|grc|ἑπτά}}, {{tlit|grc|heptá}} {{gloss|seven}} and {{lang|grc|γράφω}}, {{tlit|grc|gráphō}} {{gloss|write}}) is a sequence of seven letters used to represent a single sound (phoneme), or a combination of sounds, that do not correspond to the individual values of the letters.

Heptagraphs are extremely rare. Most other fixed sequences of seven letters are composed of shorter [multigraphs](/source/Multigraph_(orthography)) with a predictable result. The seven-letter German sequence {{angbr|schtsch}}, used to transliterate the Russian and Ukrainian letter {{angbr|[щ](/source/%D1%89)}}, as in {{angbr|Borschtsch}} {{IPA|de|bɔʁʃtʃ|}} for Russian/Ukrainian {{angbr|борщ}} ({{IPA|ru|borɕː|lang}}, {{IPA|uk|bɔrʃtʃ|lang}}) "[borscht](/source/borscht)", is a sequence of a [trigraph](/source/trigraph_(orthography)) {{angbr|sch}} {{IPA|de|ʃ|}} and a [tetragraph](/source/tetragraph) {{angbr|tsch}} {{IPA|de|t͡ʃ|}}. Likewise, the [Juu languages](/source/Juu_languages) have been claimed to have a heptagraph {{angbr|dtsʼkxʼ}}, but this is also a sequence, of {{angbr|dtsʼ}} and {{angbr|kxʼ}}.

Another theoretical example of a heptagraph would be the traditional [Irish](/source/Irish_language) spelling ''oidhche'' {{gloss|night}} for modern ''oíche'', but only for the pronunciation /iː/ as found in the [Cois Fharraige](/source/Cois_Fharraige) dialect.
