# Henry Witchell

**Henry Gough Witchell** (8 April 1906 – 24 August 1965) was an English [cricketer](/source/Cricket). Witchell's [batting](/source/Batting_(cricket)) style is unknown. He was born at [Dursley](/source/Dursley), [Gloucestershire](/source/Gloucestershire).

Witchell made a single [first-class](/source/First-class_cricket) appearance for [Gloucestershire](/source/Gloucestershire_County_Cricket_Club) against [Hampshire](/source/Hampshire_County_Cricket_Club) in the [1923 County Championship](/source/1923_County_Championship) at the [Spa Ground, Gloucester](/source/Spa_Ground).[1] He scored 4 runs in Gloucestershire first-innings, before being dismissed by [Alec Kennedy](/source/Alec_Kennedy), in what was his only batting innings of a drawn match.[2] Over a decade later he joined [Wiltshire](/source/Wiltshire_County_Cricket_Club), making his debut for the county in the 1934 [Minor Counties Championship](/source/Minor_Counties_Cricket_Championship) against the [Surrey Second XI](/source/Surrey_County_Cricket_Club). He played [minor counties](/source/Minor_Counties_of_English_and_Welsh_cricket) cricket for Wiltshire from 1934 to 1938, making a further thirteen appearances for the county, the last of which came against [Dorset](/source/Dorset_County_Cricket_Club).[3] In 1935, he was selected to play for a combined [Minor Counties team](/source/Minor_Counties_of_English_and_Welsh_cricket#Minor_Counties_representative_teams), making two first-class appearances against [Cambridge University](/source/Cambridge_University_Cricket_Club) at [Fenner's](/source/Fenner's), and [Oxford University](/source/Oxford_University_Cricket_Club) at the [University Parks](/source/University_Parks).[1] He batted in only one of these matches, the first against Cambridge University, scoring 5 runs in the Minor Counties first-innings, before being dismissed by [Jahangir Khan](/source/Jahangir_Khan_(cricketer)), while in their second-innings he was dismissed for a [duck](/source/Duck_(cricket)) by [John Cameron](/source/John_Cameron_(West_Indian_cricketer)).[4]

He died at [Cotham Hill](/source/Cotham,_Bristol), [Bristol](/source/Bristol), on 24 August 1965.
