==Cricket career==
He made his debut in 1831 and appeared in one match as an unknown [handedness](/source/handedness) [batsman](/source/batting_(cricket)) whose [bowling style](/source/bowling_(cricket)) is unknown, playing for [Cambridge University](/source/Cambridge_University_Cricket_Club). ==Steeplechasing==
In 1837 Potts rode at the [Aintree](/source/Aintree) races, which included a mount on [The Duke](/source/The_Duke_(horse)) in the [Grand Liverpool Steeplechase](/source/1837_Grand_Liverpool_Steeplechase), a precursor to the [Grand National](/source/Grand_National).
