He was a member of the [Australian House of Representatives](/source/Australian_House_of_Representatives) from 1913 to 1919, representing the electorate of [Calare](/source/Division_of_Calare) for the [Commonwealth Liberal Party](/source/Commonwealth_Liberal_Party) and its successor the [Nationalist Party](/source/Nationalist_Party_(Australia)).

He was born in [Ceylon](/source/Ceylon) of Irish Baptist missionary parents and attended the London School for the Sons of Missionaries. He worked for the [Bank of Australasia](/source/Bank_of_Australasia) in [England](/source/England) before migrating to [New South Wales](/source/New_South_Wales) in 1885. He worked as an official for the [Australian Joint Stock Bank](/source/Australian_Joint_Stock_Bank) in a succession of branches: as an accountant at [Summer Hill](/source/Summer_Hill%2C_New_South_Wales) and then [Cooma](/source/Cooma%2C_New_South_Wales) and then bank manager at [Milton](/source/Milton%2C_New_South_Wales) and finally [Blayney](/source/Blayney%2C_New_South_Wales). In 1899, he left the banking industry and became a stock and station agent in Blayney, in which capacity he continued up until his election to parliament. He also purchased a 13,000 acre pastoral property, "Cadara", near [Tottenham](/source/Tottenham%2C_New_South_Wales), in 1910. In [1913](/source/1913_Australian_federal_election), he was elected to the [Australian House of Representatives](/source/Australian_House_of_Representatives) for the [Commonwealth Liberal Party](/source/Commonwealth_Liberal_Party), defeating [Labour](/source/Australian_Labor_Party) member for [Calare](/source/Division_of_Calare) [Thomas Brown](/source/Thomas_Brown_(New_South_Wales_politician)). He held the seat until 1919 (during which time the Liberal Party had become the [Nationalist Party](/source/Nationalist_Party_of_Australia)), when he was defeated by Labor's [Thomas Lavelle](/source/Thomas_Lavelle). After his parliamentary defeat, Pigott resided in Blayney while retaining the successful "Cadara" property. He remained active in farming circles, serving as a representative of the Carcoar and Mandurama branch of the Graziers' Association for over twenty years and remaining involved in the Farmers and Settlers Association. He sold "Cadara" in 1945 and purchased a bungalow in the [Sydney](/source/Sydney) suburb of [Manly](/source/Manly%2C_New_South_Wales), which he lived in thereafter.
