**Helmut Mayer** (born 4 March 1966 in [Verditz](/source/Treffen_am_Ossiacher_See)) is a former World Cup [alpine ski racer](/source/Alpine_skiing) from [Austria](/source/Austria). At the [1988 Winter Olympics](/source/Alpine_skiing_at_the_1988_Winter_Olympics) in [Calgary](/source/Calgary) he won a silver medal in the [Super-G](/source/Alpine_skiing_at_the_1988_Winter_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men's_super-G) competition at [Nakiska](/source/Nakiska). He also won a silver medal in the [giant slalom](/source/FIS_Alpine_World_Ski_Championships_1989#Giant_slalom) at the [World Championships](/source/FIS_Alpine_World_Ski_Championships) in [1989](/source/FIS_Alpine_World_Ski_Championships_1989) at [Vail](/source/Vail_Ski_Resort), [Colorado](/source/Colorado).

Mayer is the father of World Cup racer [Matthias Mayer](/source/Matthias_Mayer), the Olympic gold medalist in [downhill](/source/Alpine_skiing_at_the_2014_Winter_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men's_downhill) in [2014](/source/Alpine_skiing_at_the_2014_Winter_Olympics),[1] and [Super-G](/source/Alpine_skiing_at_the_2014_Winter_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men's_super-G) in [2018](/source/Alpine_skiing_at_the_2018_Winter_Olympics) and 2022.
