# Helminthosphaeriaceae

The **Helminthosphaeriaceae** are a [family](/source/Family_(taxonomy)) of [fungi](/source/Fungi) in the class [Sordariomycetes](/source/Sordariomycetes).[1] Species in this family are [saprobic](/source/Saprobic), often growing on rotten wood or on the [fruit bodies](/source/Sporocarp_(fungi)) of old mushrooms. They are distributed in [temperate](/source/Temperate) areas.[2]
