**Hellmut H. Schmid** (12 September 1914 – 27 April 1998) was a Swiss professor of [geodesy](/source/Geodesy) and [photogrammetry](/source/Photogrammetry). He taught at [ETH Zürich](/source/ETH_Z%C3%BCrich) (Switzerland). In the 1950s, he worked on [space exploration](/source/Space_exploration) in the United States. Between 1968 and 1974, he promoted the first [intercontinental](/source/Continent) network of [satellite geodesy](/source/Satellite_geodesy).
