**Helicinae** is a [subfamily](/source/Subfamily) of [terrestrial](/source/Terrestrial_animal) [gastropods](/source/Gastropoda) in the family [Helicidae](/source/Helicidae). It contains mostly large [land snail](/source/Land_snail) [species](/source/Species), distributed in the western [Palaearctic](/source/Palearctic_realm). The most recent (as of 2023) classification proposed division into three [tribes](/source/Tribe_(biology)).[2][3]

The subfamily contains the largest [helicids](/source/Helicidae), and includes widely known, widespread species like the [garden snail](/source/Cornu_aspersum), [grove snail](/source/Grove_snail), [white garden snail](/source/Theba_pisana), [chocolate-band snail](/source/Eobania_vermiculata) or the [Roman snail](/source/Helix_pomatia).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]
