# Helge Rode

**Helge Rode** (16 October 1870 – 23 March 1937)[1] was a [Danish](/source/Denmark) writer and critic, and journalist for *[Politiken](/source/Politiken)*, *[Berlingske Tidende](/source/Berlingske_Tidende)*, and *[Illustreret Tidende](/source/Illustreret_Tidende)*.[2] He was born in [Frederiksberg](/source/Frederiksberg), a son of [Margrethe Rode](/source/Margrethe_Vullum),[3] the brother of politician [Ove Rode](/source/Ove_Rode),[4] and father of actor [Ebbe Rode](/source/Ebbe_Rode).[5] In 1905, he married the writer [Edith Rode](/source/Edith_Rode), with whom he had four children.[6]

He was a critic of [Georg Brandes](/source/Georg_Brandes) and the [Modern Breakthrough](/source/Modern_Breakthrough).[4] Composer [Carl Nielsen](/source/Carl_Nielsen)'s piece *[Moderen](/source/Moderen)* (The Mother) was written for a play by Rode in 1920–1921.
