'''Hel''' is a [Swedish](/source/Sweden) [Viking rock](/source/Viking_rock) band, based in [Eskilstuna](/source/Eskilstuna), [Södermanland](/source/S%C3%B6dermanland), Sweden.  The band's name is derived from the [Norse goddess](/source/Norse_mythology) [Hel](/source/Hel_(being)).

== History ==
Hel formed in 1999 following the disintegration of [Völund Smed](/source/V%C3%B6lund_Smed), three of the Hel's five members having previously played in that band.  A major change from Völund Smed's lineup was that Hel would feature two female vocalists, [Malin Pettersson](/source/Malin_Pettersson) and [Ulrica Pettersson](/source/Ulrica_Pettersson).<ref name="auto">{{Cite web|url=http://www.vikingarock.se/banden/hel.php|title=Hel - VIKINGAROCK . As a result of the compilation's commercial success, Hel was initially signed to vikingrock group [Ultima Thule](/source/Ultima_Thule_(Swedish_band))'s label, [Ultima Thule Records](/source/Ultima_Thule_Records), but later formed their own label, [Peanut Music AB](/source/Peanut_Music_AB). 

The band toured internationally between 2001 and 2004, finally breaking up following the departure of violinist [Cia Hedmark](/source/Cia_Hedmark) in 2004 to reform Völund Smed.<ref name="auto"/>

In 2008, Malin Pettersson, Ulrica Pettersson, and Adde Norlin debuted a new band called Tales of Origin.
