# Heinrich Emil Timerding

German mathematician

**Heinrich Carl Franz Emil Timerding** (23 January 1873 in [Strasbourg](/source/Strasbourg)[1] – 30 April 1945 in [Braunschweig](/source/Braunschweig)) was a German [mathematician](/source/Mathematician), professor at the [Braunschweig University of Technology](/source/Braunschweig_University_of_Technology), mainly known for his contributions to [probability theory](/source/Probability_theory). He was awarded the [Brunswick](/source/War_Merit_Cross_(Brunswick)) and the Prussian [War Merit Cross](/source/War_Merit_Cross), the Ritterkreuz ([Knight's Cross](/source/Knight's_Cross)) of the [Order of Henry the Lion](/source/Order_of_Henry_the_Lion), and in 1938 the Nazi [Civil Service Faithful Service Medal](/source/Civil_Service_Faithful_Service_Medal).[1]

In 1900 he attended [Columbia University](/source/Columbia_University) in [New York City](/source/New_York_City) the [American Mathematical Society](/source/American_Mathematical_Society)'s summer meeting, where he read a paper.[2]
