*Hedeia* is a [genus](/source/Genus) of early [land plants](/source/Land_plant) of uncertain [affinity](/source/Affinity_(taxonomy)).[1] It comprises erect axes terminating in [corymbose](/source/Corymb) clusters of erect [sporangia](/source/Sporangia).[2]

The type species, *H. corymbosa*, was first described by [Isabel Cookson](/source/Isabel_Cookson) from a few specimens in fine sandstone from near [Alexandra, Victoria](/source/Alexandra,_Victoria), Australia.[3] She gave no derivation of the generic name. At the time, the locality was regarded as being of [Silurian](/source/Silurian) age, but it is now known to be [Early Devonian](/source/Early_Devonian).[4] It is claimed that an undescribed species, also from Victoria, extends from the [Early Devonian](/source/Early_Devonian) back to the [Late Silurian](/source/Late_Silurian).[4]

*H. parvula* from Kazakhstan and *H. sinica* from China are also of Early Devonian age.

It is sometimes suggested that *Hedeia* and *[Yarravia](/source/Yarravia)* are merely different preservations of the same type of plant.[5]
