'''Hector Morison''' (1850 – 4 June 1939) was a British [stockbroker](/source/stockbroker) and [Liberal Party](/source/Liberal_Party_(UK)) politician.

He was the son of John Morison of [Glasgow](/source/Glasgow), and was educated at the city's [academy](/source/Glasgow_Academy) and [university](/source/Glasgow_University). He joined a Glasgow firm of chartered accountants and stockbrokers, but found his opportunities too limited. Accordingly, in 1879 he moved to London, and in 1886 became a member of the [London Stock Exchange](/source/London_Stock_Exchange).<ref name=obit>{{cite news |title=Obituary: Mr Hector Morison |work=[The Times](/source/The_Times) |page=20 |date=5 June 1939}}</ref>

In 1876 Morison had married Josephine Ashton, member of a [Manchester](/source/Manchester) family of textile industrialists. He built up an expertise in the textile industry, and was a principal trader in the shares of [J & P Coats](/source/Coats_PLC), the [Bradford Dyers Association](/source/Bradford_Dyers_Association) and the [English Sewing Cotton Company](/source/English_Sewing_Cotton_Company).<ref name=obit/>

Morison was politically a man of strong Liberal views. He was elected to the [Croydon](/source/Croydon) [School Board](/source/School_boards_in_England_and_Wales), and was the party's parliamentary candidate at [Lewes](/source/Lewes_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) in [1906](/source/1906_United_Kingdom_general_election) and 
at [Eastbourne](/source/Eastbourne_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) in [January](/source/January_1910_United_Kingdom_general_election) and [December 1910](/source/December_1910_United_Kingdom_general_election).<ref name=obit/>

In May 1912, [Horatio Bottomley](/source/Horatio_Bottomley), the controversial Liberal MP for [Hackney South](/source/Hackney_South_(UK_Parliament_constituency)), was forced to his resign his seat when he was declared [bankrupt](/source/bankruptcy). Bottomley had been unpopular with a large portion of the party's activists in Hackney, who had run their own candidate against him in December 1910. The two Liberal factions came together to nominate Morison for the vacancy.<ref>{{cite news |title=Resignation Of Mr. Bottomley. Morison served only one term as a member of the [Commons](/source/United_Kingdom_House_of_Commons). He chose to retire at the next [general election in 1918](/source/1918_United_Kingdom_general_election). Horatio Bottomley, whose bankruptcy had been annulled, regained the Hackney South seat as an independent.

Hector Morison played no further part in public life, living in quiet retirement. He died, aged 89, at his home "Beechcroft", [Kenley](/source/Kenley), near Croydon, in June 1939.<ref name=obit/>
