'''Heather Barbara Samuel''' (born 6 July 1970) is a retired [sprinter](/source/sprint_(running)) from [Antigua and Barbuda](/source/Antigua_and_Barbuda) who specialized in the [100](/source/100_metres) and [200 metres](/source/200_metres). In 1990 she won two medals at the [Central American and Caribbean Games](/source/Athletics_at_the_1990_Central_American_and_Caribbean_Games) with a silver medal in the 100 metres and a bronze medal in the 200 metres.<ref name="CACG">[http://www.gbrathletics.com/ic/cacgw.htm Central American and Caribbean Games (Women)] - GBR Athletics</ref>

Samuel was a sprinter/jumper at [Murray State University](/source/Murray_State_University) in [Murray, Kentucky](/source/Murray%2C_Kentucky) from 1991 to 1994; in 2004 she was selected for the Murray State Athletics Hall of Fame.<ref>[https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=ox1BAAAAIBAJ&sjid=eagMAAAAIBAJ&pg=2206,1227003&dq=heather-samuel+murray-state&hl=en "Western trying to sell 5,000 season tickets"], ''[Associated Press](/source/Associated_Press) at [The Harlan Daily Enterprise](/source/The_Harlan_Daily_Enterprise)'', May 28, 1992.</ref><ref>[http://www.goracers.com/sports/2009/7/23/218299508.aspx "Murray State Athletics Hall of Fame"] (accessed March 17, 2011).</ref> Her World Championships debut came in 1993, when she competed in 100 and 200 m at the [1993 World Championships](/source/1993_World_Championships_in_Athletics). She did not reach the final in either event. In May that year she had achieved a career best time over the 100 m, clocking 11.20 seconds in [Indianapolis](/source/Indianapolis%2C_IN). In May the next year she clocked a career best time of 23.20 over 200 metres in [Atlanta](/source/Atlanta%2C_GA).

In 1995 she became Central American and Caribbean Champion for the only time.<ref>[http://www.gbrathletics.com/ic/caccw.htm Central American and Caribbean Championships (Women)] - GBR Athletics</ref> She again competed in two events at the [World Championships](/source/1995_World_Championships_in_Athletics), again without reaching the final, and repeated this at the [1997 World Championships](/source/1997_World_Championships_in_Athletics).

In 1999 she made her debut at the [World Indoor Championships](/source/1999_IAAF_World_Indoor_Championships), and only competed in the 100 metres at the [World Championships](/source/1999_World_Championships_in_Athletics) the same year. She competed in the 100 m as well as her last world-level 200 m at the [2000 Summer Olympics](/source/2000_Summer_Olympics), and in the 60 m at the [2001 World Indoor Championships](/source/2001_IAAF_World_Indoor_Championships), again without reaching the final round. However, she repeated her success from 1990 at the [Central American and Caribbean Games](/source/Athletics_at_the_2002_Central_American_and_Caribbean_Games), once again winning a silver and a bronze medal.<ref name="CACG"/>

In 2003, she reached the 60 m semi-final at the [2003 World Indoor Championships](/source/2003_IAAF_World_Indoor_Championships), which was her best result in a global athletics event. Unsuccessful participations at the [2003 World Championships](/source/2003_World_Championships_in_Athletics) and the [2004 Summer Olympics](/source/2004_Summer_Olympics) followed. She has not competed since 2004.
