***He Wanted Adventure*** is a 1933 [musical](/source/Musical_theatre) by [R. P. Weston](/source/R._P._Weston) and [Bert Lee](/source/Bert_Lee). Music was written by Jack Waller and Joseph Tunbridge, with additional lyrics provided by [Clifford Grey](/source/Clifford_Grey). It is based on [Walter Hackett](/source/Walter_Hackett)'s 1921 hit play *[Ambrose Applejohn's Adventure](/source/Ambrose_Applejohn's_Adventure)*.

Premiering at the [Palace Theatre, Manchester](/source/Palace_Theatre%2C_Manchester) it transferred to the [West End](/source/West_End_theatre) for a 152 performances at the [Saville Theatre](/source/Saville_Theatre) which lasted between 28 March and 19 August 1933. The original London cast included [Bobby Howes](/source/Bobby_Howes), [Wylie Watson](/source/Wylie_Watson), [Abraham Sofaer](/source/Abraham_Sofaer), [Judy Gunn](/source/Judy_Gunn), [Lena Halliday](/source/Lena_Halliday) and [Marie Burke](/source/Marie_Burke).[1]
