**Hayward Morse** is a British stage and voice actor born in 1947. His career began on [CBC](/source/Canadian_Broadcasting_Corporation) television and with numerous stage performances in Canada and the United States. He made his US television debut in 1959 with [Ingrid Bergman](/source/Ingrid_Bergman) in the film *[The Turn of the Screw](/source/The_Turn_of_the_Screw_(Ford_Startime))*.

## Background

Morse is the son of actors [Barry Morse](/source/Barry_Morse) and [Sydney Sturgess](/source/Sydney_Sturgess) and brother of [Melanie Morse MacQuarrie](/source/Melanie_Morse_MacQuarrie). He received a scholarship at the age of 16 to the [Royal Academy of Dramatic Art](/source/Royal_Academy_of_Dramatic_Art) (RADA) in London, receiving the 'Silver Medal' award upon graduation.

## Career

He made his London [West End](/source/West_End_theatre) debut in the original production of [Joe Orton](/source/Joe_Orton)'s *[What The Butler Saw](/source/What_the_Butler_Saw_(play))* at the Queen's Theatre in 1969 with [Ralph Richardson](/source/Ralph_Richardson), [Stanley Baxter](/source/Stanley_Baxter) and [Coral Browne](/source/Coral_Browne).

He received a Best Supporting Actor [Antoinette Perry](/source/Antoinette_Perry) 'Tony' award nomination for his performance in [Simon Gray](/source/Simon_Gray)'s *[Butley](/source/Butley_(play))* on [Broadway](/source/Broadway_theatre), starred in the first stage production of [The Rocky Horror Show](/source/The_Rocky_Horror_Show), the Bristol Old Vic production of [Oscar Wilde](/source/Oscar_Wilde)'s *Lady Windermere's Fan*, and has appeared in many of [William Shakespeare](/source/William_Shakespeare)'s plays internationally. Other stage roles include 'Hercule Poirot' in *Alibi*, the dual roles of 'Aunt' and 'Nephew' in *Travels with My Aunt*, *Sleuth* and *I Ought to be in Pictures*. Morse appeared as 'Bosie' in the North American premiere of *Bernard and Bosie: A Most Unlikely Friendship* by [Anthony Wynn](/source/Anthony_Wynn) alongside his father, [Barry Morse](/source/Barry_Morse).
