The mountains are east of [Denali National Park](/source/Denali_National_Park), separated by the [Nenana River](/source/Nenana_River) and Windy Pass, and are west of the [Delta Mountains](/source/Delta_Mountains), separated by the  [Delta River](/source/Delta_River) and [Isabel Pass](/source/Isabel_Pass). As the crow flies, the Hayes Range is located about {{convert|100|mi|km}} south of [Fairbanks](/source/Fairbanks%2C_Alaska), and {{convert|200|mi|km}} northeast of [Anchorage](/source/Anchorage%2C_Alaska).
