'''Hawkley Hall''' was an Elixabethan mansion house in [Pemberton](/source/Pemberton%2C_Greater_Manchester), about 1.5 miles from [Wigan](/source/Wigan) and to the east of Goose Green. The Hawkley's, the original owners of the hall, came to England at the time of [William the Conqueror](/source/William_the_Conqueror). It passed to the [Molyneux](/source/Molyneux) family in 1374, who considerably rebuilt it during the 17th century. It once held [Oliver Cromwell](/source/Oliver_Cromwell) and his officers during the civil war.<ref>{{Cite web | url=https://www.wiganlocalhistory.org/articles/the-history-of-the-wigan-flashes | title= History of the Wigan Flashes | author1 = Dr Mark Champion| author2 = Patricia Rigg| publisher= [Lancashire Wildlife Trust](/source/Lancashire_Wildlife_Trust) | website = Wigan Building Preservation Trust }}</ref>
