**Hatirpool** is a busy marketplace in [Dhaka](/source/Dhaka), Bangladesh. It is a crowded area, with shopping complexes, hotels & restaurants, and market.[1]

## Etymology

Legend has it that the [Bhawal Raja](/source/Bhawal_Estate) used to keep his tamed elephants at [Pilkhana](/source/Pilkhana,_Bangladesh). The elephants were taken to the [Hatirjheel](/source/Hatirjheel) wetlands for bathing along [Elephant Road](/source/New_Elephant_road) and Hatirpool (elephant's bridge) hence the name of the area.[2]
