== Early life and career ==
Zohm received his doctorate in 1990 from [Heidelberg University](/source/Heidelberg_University) and the [Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics](/source/Max_Planck_Institute_for_Plasma_Physics) in [Garching, Germany](/source/Garching_bei_M%C3%BCnchen). His doctoral thesis "Investigation of Magnetic Modes in the [ASDEX Tokamak](/source/ASDEX_Upgrade)" received the [Otto Hahn Medal](/source/Otto_Hahn_Medal) in 1991.{{Citation needed|date=March 2020}} He was a post-graduate student at [General Atomics](/source/General_Atomics) in [San Diego, California](/source/San_Diego). In 1996, he habilitated in experimental physics at the [University of Augsburg](/source/University_of_Augsburg) and was professor for electrical engineering and plasma research at the [University of Stuttgart](/source/University_of_Stuttgart) from 1996 to 1999. He has been a scientific member of the [Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics](/source/Max_Planck_Institute_for_Plasma_Physics) since 1999 and heads the Tokamak scenario research area. In 2003, he became an honorary professor at [LMU Munich](/source/LMU_Munich).
