He composed music scores for movies including *[Salem's Lot](/source/Salem's_Lot_(1979_TV_miniseries))*. He married [Francesca Paley](/source/Francesca_Paley) in 1946, and the two stayed married until his death.[1] They had one child, [Susan McCray](/source/Susan_McCray). He won an [Oscar](/source/Oscar_award) and was nominated for two Oscars.[2] He won the best musical song score Oscar at the [1960](/source/33rd_Academy_Awards) [Academy Awards](/source/Academy_Awards) (shared with [Morris Stoloff](/source/Morris_Stoloff)) for *[Song Without End](/source/Song_Without_End)*. Sukman was also nominated for *[Fanny](/source/Fanny_(1961_film))* and *[The Singing Nun](/source/The_Singing_Nun_(film))*. All three were in the [Best Score](/source/Academy_Award_for_Best_Original_Score) category.
