## Club career

### Everton

Charsley joined the [Academy](/source/Everton_F.C._Reserves_and_Academy) at [Everton](/source/Everton_F.C.) at the age of nine.[5] He was part of the squad that won the [Under-18 Premier League](/source/Professional_Development_League) title in the [2013–14](/source/2013%E2%80%9314_Professional_U18_Development_League) season and scored the only goal of the game against [Manchester City](/source/Manchester_City_F.C._EDS_and_Academy) in the knockout final at [Goodison Park](/source/Goodison_Park).[6] After progressing through the ranks of the academy, he signed his first professional two-year [contract](/source/Association_football_contracts) with the club in July 2014.[7] Charsley was named as Everton Under-18s Player of the Season and won the team's Goal of the Season award.[8] In July 2016, he signed a one-year contract extension with the club.[9] He scored three goals in his first five matches for the under-23 side in the [2016–17](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_Professional_U18_Development_League) season.[10] He scored on his debut against a senior team in a competitive game on 8 November 2016, in 1–1 draw with [Blackpool](/source/Blackpool_F.C.) in the [EFL Trophy](/source/EFL_Trophy), which ended in a 5–4 defeat in the [penalty shoot-out](/source/Penalty_shoot-out_(association_football)).[11] He top-scored with 12 goals in 23 games to help [David Unsworth](/source/David_Unsworth)'s under-23 team to win the 2016–17 Premier League 2 title.[12] In April 2017, Charsley signed a two-year contract extension.[13]

On 7 December 2017, Charsley made his first-team debut under [Sam Allardyce](/source/Sam_Allardyce), starting in a 3–0 win at [Apollon Limassol](/source/Apollon_Limassol) in the [Europa League](/source/UEFA_Europa_League).[14][15] Local newspaper, the *[Daily Post](/source/Daily_Post_(North_Wales))*, said that he *"grew in confidence at left-back."*[16] He played nine further games for the under-23s in the EFL Trophy, but would never make another first-team appearance.[3] On 12 January 2018, Charsley moved to [Championship](/source/EFL_Championship) side [Bolton Wanderers](/source/Bolton_Wanderers_F.C.) on [loan](/source/Loan_(sports)) until the end of the [2017–18](/source/2017%E2%80%9318_Bolton_Wanderers_F.C._season) season, joining Everton compatriot [Antonee Robinson](/source/Antonee_Robinson) at the [Macron Stadium](/source/Macron_Stadium).[17] Charsley made his Bolton Wanderers debut the following day in a 2–0 loss against [Brentford](/source/Brentford_F.C.), where he started the match before coming off as a [substitute](/source/Substitute_(association_football)) in the second-half after playing 55 minutes.[18] [Manager](/source/Manager_(association_football)) [Phil Parkinson](/source/Phil_Parkinson) said: *"It didn't quite drop for him but there were a lot of good things."*[19] This was the only game Charsley played before returning to Everton.[3] He played every game of the under-23s' [2018–19](/source/2018%E2%80%9319_Professional_U23_Development_League) Premier League 2 title win.[20] In June 2019, it was announced that Charsley would be released by Everton when his contract expired at the end of the month.[21] Despite this, Charsley was given a new short-term contract until January 2020 a gesture of goodwill after he was sidelined with a spinal injury.[22] Having returned to fitness, he played a further 14 times for the [youth team](/source/Youth_system) before his short-term contract expired and he left the "Toffees" for good after 15 years.[23]

### Mansfield Town

On 17 January 2020, Charlsey joined [League Two](/source/EFL_League_Two) club [Mansfield Town](/source/Mansfield_Town_F.C.) on a deal until the end of the season.[24] He featured nine times in the second half of the [2019–20](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_Mansfield_Town_F.C._season) season, which was ended early due to the [COVID-19 pandemic in England](/source/COVID-19_pandemic_in_England) with [Graham Coughlan](/source/Graham_Coughlan)'s side finishing in 21st-place on points per game.[25] On 5 February 2021, Charsley signed a new 18-month contract with the club.[26] He made 48 appearances in the [2020–21](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_Mansfield_Town_F.C._season) campaign, scoring five goals, as Mansfield posted a 16th-place finish.[27] On 15 January 2022, he scored both goals in a 2–0 victory over [Walsall](/source/Walsall_F.C.).[28]

In total, he scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 77 appearances for the "Stags".[29] Reflecting on the decision to let him leave the club, manager [Nigel Clough](/source/Nigel_Clough) said that "it would have been very, very selfish" to insist that he stay at Field Mill when he could not guarantee him much playing time.[30]

### Port Vale

On 28 January 2022, Charlsey joined League Two side [Port Vale](/source/Port_Vale_F.C.) for an undisclosed fee.[29] Manager [Darrell Clarke](/source/Darrell_Clarke) had looked to strengthen the midfield department after injuries to [Tom Conlon](/source/Tom_Conlon) and [Jake Taylor](/source/Jake_Taylor_(footballer,_born_1998)).[31] Charlsey was part of a midfield three of [Tom Pett](/source/Tom_Pett) and [Ben Garrity](/source/Ben_Garrity) that helped the "Valiants" to put together a winning run in March.[32] He scored his first goal for the "Valiants" on 5 April, to secure a 1–0 victory at [Salford City](/source/Salford_City_F.C.).[33] He played as a substitute in the [play-off final](/source/2022_EFL_League_Two_play-off_final) at [Wembley Stadium](/source/Wembley_Stadium) as Vale secured [promotion](/source/Promotion_and_relegation) with a 3–0 victory over Mansfield Town; Michael Baggaley of *[The Sentinel](/source/The_Sentinel_(Staffordshire))* wrote that "[Charsley put in] a typically dynamic performance against his old club".[34][35] He made ten appearances in the first half of the [2022–23](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_Port_Vale_F.C._season) season, but left the club by mutual consent in January 2023 after securing a deal elsewhere;director of football [David Flitcroft](/source/David_Flitcroft) said that "Harry's ability in training has been high, but due to the competition in front of him the minutes on the pitch haven't been available".[36]

### Newport County

On 17 January 2023, Charsley joined League Two club [Newport County](/source/Newport_County_A.F.C.) on an 18-month contract; the move reunited him with Graham Coughlan, his former manager at Mansfield.[37] He made his debut at [Rodney Parade](/source/Rodney_Parade) in a 2–1 win over [Swindon Town](/source/Swindon_Town_F.C.) on 4 February.[38] He scored his first goal for Newport in a 2–1 defeat at [Salford City](/source/Salford_City_F.C.) on 4 March.[39] He scored two goals in 16 games in the second half of the [2022–23](/source/2022%E2%80%9323_Newport_County_A.F.C._season) season.[40]

In September 2023 he injured his ankle in training and was ruled out of action for up to ten weeks.[41] He recovered and went on play 39 games in the [2023–24](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_Newport_County_A.F.C._season) season, scoring five goals and featuring in the [FA Cup](/source/FA_Cup) third round defeat to [Manchester United](/source/Manchester_United_F.C.).[42]

### Oldham Athletic

On 2 July 2024, Charlsley joined [National League](/source/National_League_(division)) club [Oldham Athletic](/source/Oldham_Athletic_A.F.C.) on a two-year deal after manager [Micky Mellon](/source/Micky_Mellon) worked hard to tempt him to drop into [non-League football](/source/Non-League_football).[43] He scored on his debut for Oldham on 10 August, in a 3–0 win over [Braintree Town](/source/Braintree_Town) at [Boundary Park](/source/Boundary_Park).[44] He endured a stop-start [2024–25](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_National_League) season due to injury and missed the second half of the campaign after undergoing hip surgery.[3][45] The injury caused him to miss the club's promotion through the play-offs, as well as pre-season in the summer of 2025.[46] He played one EFL Trophy game in the first half of the [2025–26](/source/2025%E2%80%9326_Oldham_Athletic_A.F.C._season) season as he returned to fitness.[47]

### Truro City

On 2 January 2026, Charsley returned to the National League, joining [Truro City](/source/Truro_City_F.C.) on a free transfer, signing an eighteen-month contract for a club second from bottom in the table.[48][49] He played 22 games in the second half of the [2025–26](/source/2025%E2%80%9326_National_League) campaign,[3] which ended in relegation.[50] He was released upon the expiry of his contract.[51]
