# Harry Brightwell

**Arthur Harry Brightwell**[1] (born 4 August 1932) was a member of the [House of Commons of Canada](/source/House_of_Commons_of_Canada) from 1984 to 1993. He was a [veterinarian](/source/Veterinary_medicine) by career.[2]

Born in [Matheson, Ontario](/source/Matheson,_Ontario), he attended the [Ontario Veterinary College](/source/Ontario_Veterinary_College) in [Guelph, Ontario](/source/Guelph,_Ontario) where he graduated in 1956.[1]

He campaigned in the [1984 federal election](/source/1984_Canadian_federal_election) where he won the [Perth electoral district](/source/Perth_(federal_electoral_district)) for the [Progressive Conservative party](/source/Progressive_Conservative_Party_of_Canada). He served there for the [33rd Canadian Parliament](/source/33rd_Canadian_Parliament).

When riding boundaries were altered in 1987, Brightwell campaigned in the [Perth—Wellington—Waterloo](/source/Perth%E2%80%94Wellington%E2%80%94Waterloo) electoral district in the following [1988 federal election](/source/1988_Canadian_federal_election). He was re-elected, but by a slim two percent margin over Liberal candidate Mike Stinson.[3] After serving in the [34th Canadian Parliament](/source/34th_Canadian_Parliament) he lost the riding to [John Richardson](/source/John_Richardson_(Canadian_MP)) of the [Liberal Party](/source/Liberal_Party_of_Canada) in the [1993 federal election](/source/1993_Canadian_federal_election).
