# Harry Braid

**Henry William Braid** (11 June 1917 – 11 October 2001) was an Australian politician.

Braid was born in [Staverton](/source/Staverton,_Tasmania), [Tasmania](/source/Tasmania); his cousin, [Ian Braid](/source/Ian_Braid), was also a politician. In 1972 he was elected to the [Tasmanian Legislative Council](/source/Tasmanian_Legislative_Council) as the [independent](/source/Independent_(politician)) member for [Mersey](/source/Electoral_division_of_Mersey). He was [President of the Council](/source/President_of_the_Tasmanian_Legislative_Council) from 1983 to 1984. He retired in 1990. His daughter was [Sue Napier](/source/Sue_Napier), state [Liberal Party](/source/Liberal_Party_of_Australia_(Tasmanian_Division)) leader from 1999 to 2001.[1]
