==Early life==
Hardie Scott, son of [John Roger Kirkpatrick Scott](/source/John_Roger_Kirkpatrick_Scott), was born in [Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania](/source/Bala_Cynwyd%2C_Pennsylvania) on June 7, 1907.  He graduated from the [Taft School](/source/Taft_School) in [Watertown, Connecticut](/source/Watertown%2C_Connecticut), in 1926.<ref name=":0">{{Cite news |last=Boyer |first=Barbara |date=1999-11-05 |title=Hardie Scott; helped establish landmark |url=https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-philadelphia-inquirer-hardie-scott/161784112/ |access-date=2024-12-29 |work=The Philadelphia Inquirer |pages=296 |via=Newspapers.com}}</ref> He attended [Yale University](/source/Yale_University), graduating in 1930.  While at Yale, he was captain of the 1930 Yale [Polo](/source/Polo) Team. That year, the team went on to win the intercollegiate polo championship. He was also a member of [Psi Upsilon](/source/Psi_Upsilon) fraternity.<ref name=":0" />

He graduated from the [University of Pennsylvania Law School](/source/University_of_Pennsylvania_Law_School) in 1934.

==Career==
Scott was  admitted to the Pennsylvania state bar in 1935 and practiced law with his father.<ref name=":0" /> He was the assistant city solicitor and a special duty attorney general.<ref name=":0" />

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army before being discharged for deafness.<ref name=":0" />

Scott was elected as a [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) to the [Eightieth](/source/80th_Congress), [Eighty-first](/source/81st_Congress), and [Eighty-second](/source/82nd_Congress) Congresses, from 1947 to 1953.<ref name=":0" />  He was not a candidate for renomination in 1952. Scott was then a counsel for the State Securities Commission.<ref name=":0" /> He was an associate counsel with Dechert, Price & Rhoads until his retirement.<ref name=":0" />

==Personal life==
Scott was married to Mrs. MacRoy Jackson (née Almira Geraldine Rockefeller.) in 1952.<ref name=":0" /> They bred and trained race horses.<ref name=":0" />

Scott was a member of the Racquet Club, [Radnor Hunt](/source/Radnor_Hunt), and the [Union League of Philadelphia](/source/Union_League_of_Philadelphia).<ref name=":0" />
