**R-L151**, also known as **R-L11** and **R1b1a2a1a**, is a [human Y-chromosome DNA haplogroup](/source/Human_Y-chromosome_DNA_haplogroup); a [subclade](/source/Subclade) of the broader haplogroup [R1b](/source/Haplogroup_R1b) (R-M343).[1] It is most often found in males from [Western Europe](/source/Western_Europe) – especially [Western France](/source/Geography_of_France), [Northern Spain](/source/Northern_Spain), [Northern Portugal](/source/Northern_Portugal), [Great Britain](/source/Great_Britain), and [Ireland](/source/Ireland).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

## Origin

This haplogroup is related to the period of [Corded Ware](/source/Corded_Ware_culture) or [Beaker culture](/source/Beaker_culture), and possibly founded 3,000 years before our era in the Central part of Europe (possible [Bohemia](/source/Bohemia) region).[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

R-L151 is the most populous branch of [R-M269](/source/Haplogroup_R-M269), and is found in abundance along the [Atlantic](/source/Atlantic) coasts of western Europe, especially [Aquitaine](/source/Aquitaine), [Asturias](/source/Asturias), [Basques](/source/Basques), [Belgium](/source/Belgium), [Brittany](/source/Brittany), [Galicia](/source/Galicia_(Spain)), [England](/source/England), [Ireland](/source/Ireland) (as a whole), the [Loire](/source/Pays_de_la_Loire) region, the isle of [Man](/source/Isle_of_Man), [Northern Portugal](/source/Northern_Portugal), [Northern Spain](/source/Northern_Spain), [Scotland](/source/Scotland), and [Wales](/source/Wales).[2] It is also found at significant levels in [Switzerland](/source/Switzerland) and [Northern Italy](/source/Northern_Italy). R-L151 is found at lower frequencies in [Poland](/source/Poland) and [Ukraine](/source/Ukraine), as well as many other European countries.[3] Since the [early modern era](/source/Early_modern_era), males emigrating from Europe have introduced significant levels of R-L151 to [The Americas](/source/The_Americas) and [Australasia](/source/Australasia).

This human haplogroup has two subclades, the south-western branch, P312/S116, and the north-eastern branch, R1b-S21-U106.

Haplogroup R-L151 is geographicaly associated with peoples speaking [Italo-Celtic](/source/Italo-Celtic_languages) [4] or [Germanic](/source/Germanic_languages) [Indo-European languages](/source/Indo-European_languages) [5] , distinct from haplogroup [R-Z2103](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=R-Z2103&action=edit&redlink=1) (a hypothesis based purely on the geographical distribution of its haplogroups and excluding non-Indo-European languages such as [Etruscan](/source/Etruscan_language)). [Haplogroup R-M269](/source/Haplogroup_R-M269) combines these two groups (with other).

This human haplogroup includes, in particular, the "Italo-Celtic" branch, [4] P312/S116, and the "Germanic" branch, [5] R1b-S21-U106.
