Bay in Graham Land, Antarctica

**Hanusse Bay** is a broad, V-shaped [bay](/source/Bay), off the west coast of [Graham Land](/source/Graham_Land), [Antarctica](/source/Antarctica). The bay is 37 kilometres (20 nmi) long and trends generally north–south. It is bordered by [Cape Mascart](/source/Cape_Mascart) on [Anvers Island](/source/Anvers_Island), and Shmidt Point on [Arrowsmith Peninsula](/source/Arrowsmith_Peninsula), [Loubet Coast](/source/Loubet_Coast). At its north entrance, Isacke Passage separates it from [Liard Island](/source/Liard_Island). It is bounded to the south by a line from [Landauer Point](/source/Landauer_Point), the north point of [Hansen Island](/source/Hansen_Island) and Bagnold Point on Arrowsmith Peninsula.[1]

The bay was discovered and first charted by the [French Antarctic Expedition, 1908–10](/source/French_Antarctic_Expedition%2C_1908%E2%80%9310), under [Jean-Baptiste Charcot](/source/Jean-Baptiste_Charcot), and named by him for the director of the [Hydrographic Service](/source/Hydrographic_office#France) of the [French Navy](/source/French_Navy) Ferdinand Isidore Hanusse (1848–1921).[2] Isacke Passage was also charted Charcot's expedition. It was named by the [UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee](/source/UK_Antarctic_Place-Names_Committee) for Captain [Christopher J. Isacke](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Christopher_J._Isacke&action=edit&redlink=1), [Royal Navy](/source/Royal_Navy), commanding officer of [HMS *Endurance*](/source/HMS_Endurance_(1967)) in the [Antarctic Peninsula](/source/Antarctic_Peninsula) area, 1972–74.[3]
