'''Hanuabada''' is a coastal village in [Papua New Guinea](/source/Papua_New_Guinea) in the outskirts of the nation's capital, [Port Moresby](/source/Port_Moresby). It is the biggest village in the Motuan tribe and is often known by its locals as "'''HB'''".

Hanuabada means "big village" (''hanua'' "village" + ''bada'' "big", the former from [Proto-Oceanic](/source/Proto-Oceanic_language) (''*panua'') in [Motu](/source/Motu_language). It is northwest of Downtown [Port Moresby](/source/Port_Moresby). It has a population of over 15,000. It is a [Motuan](/source/Motuan_people) village and is part of [Poreporena](/source/Poreporena), which includes both Hanuabada and [Elevala](/source/Elevala).

The village was the site of the declaration of the [New Guinea Protectorate](/source/New_Guinea_Protectorate) by the [British](/source/United_Kingdom) in 1884.<ref name="Princess Anne">{{cite web |title=Princess Anne set to tour PNG as royal family contends with British empire's colonial past |url=https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-04-12/princess-anne-in-papua-new-guinea/100981996 |website=[ABC News](/source/ABC_News_(Australia)) |access-date=30 August 2022}}</ref>

Hanuabada is known for producing a large proportion of the players on the [Papua New Guinea national cricket team](/source/Papua_New_Guinea_national_cricket_team).<ref>{{Cite news|url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/17333579|title = Geraint Jones's Papua New Guinea adventure|work = BBC Sport}}</ref> This was also the birthplace of the village [Liklik Kricket Competition](/source/Liklik_Kricket_Competition). The village is also the home of Commonwealth Champions Geua Vada Steven Kari and [Dika Toua](/source/Dika_Toua). Of Papua New Guinea's nine [Commonwealth Games](/source/Papua_New_Guinea_at_the_Commonwealth_Games) medals, eight have come from Hanuabada.

In May 2015, there was a police raid in Hanuabada in which the police of Port Moresby confiscated more than 1,000 bags of [betel nut](/source/betel_nut)s. The total value of these nut sacks was estimated to be over US$180,000.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.fbc.com.fj/world/29801/port-moresby-police-confiscate-record-haul-of-buai|title=Port Moresby police confiscate record haul of buai|access-date=2015-07-09|archive-date=2016-03-04|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160304091148/http://www.fbc.com.fj/world/29801/port-moresby-police-confiscate-record-haul-of-buai|url-status=dead}}</ref>
