==Biography==
He was born in [Vienna](/source/Vienna) in 1862 and died in [Innsbruck](/source/Innsbruck) in 1926. 
He studied at the [Vienna Conservatory](/source/University_of_Music_and_Performing_Arts%2C_Vienna) with [Karl Heissler](/source/Carl_Heissler) and [Josef Hellmesberger, Sr.](/source/Josef_Hellmesberger%2C_Sr.) from 1873 to 1878. Afterwards he also studied privately with [Jakob Grün](/source/Jakob_Gr%C3%BCn).

He debuted with the [Vienna Philharmonic Society](/source/Vienna_Philharmonic_Society) in 1883. He subsequently toured Europe and visited England in 1888. From 1889 he was professor at the [Royal Academy of Music](/source/Royal_Academy_of_Music). He performed at the [London Proms](/source/London_Proms). He established the ''Wessely Quartet''. 
He worked with [Hans Richter](/source/Hans_Richter_(conductor)), [August Manns](/source/August_Manns), [Henry Wood](/source/Henry_Wood), [Alexander Mackenzie](/source/Alexander_Mackenzie_(composer)), [York Bowen](/source/York_Bowen) and [Arthur Sullivan](/source/Arthur_Sullivan).
He taught [Spencer Dyke](/source/Spencer_Dyke), [Albert Sandler](/source/Albert_Sandler), [Percy Hilder Miles](/source/Percy_Hilder_Miles), [E. Florence Whitlock](/source/E._Florence_Whitlock), [Lionel Tertis](/source/Lionel_Tertis) and [Rebecca Clarke](/source/Rebecca_Clarke_(composer)), (before the latter two changed to viola).
