The '''Hanover Band''' is a British orchestra specialised in [historically informed performance](/source/historically_informed_performance), founded in 1980 by its artistic director, Caroline Brown.  

The group's website explains the name thus: '' 'Hanover' signifies the [Hanoverian](/source/House_of_Hanover) period 1714-1830 and 'Band' is the 18th century term for orchestra.''

Its principal and guest conductors and directors have included [Monica Huggett](/source/Monica_Huggett), Sir [Charles Mackerras](/source/Charles_Mackerras), [Roy Goodman](/source/Roy_Goodman), [Anthony Halstead](/source/Anthony_Halstead), [Nicholas McGegan](/source/Nicholas_McGegan), Graham Lea-Cox, [Richard Egarr](/source/Richard_Egarr), [Nicholas Kraemer](/source/Nicholas_Kraemer), [Paul Brough](/source/Paul_Brough_(conductor)), Andrew Arthur and Benjamin Bayl.

The Hanover Band has appeared at the [Carnegie Hall](/source/Carnegie_Hall), [Amsterdam Concertgebouw](/source/Amsterdam_Concertgebouw), [Bridgewater Hall](/source/Bridgewater_Hall) (Manchester), [South Bank Centre](/source/South_Bank_Centre), [Royal Albert Hall](/source/Royal_Albert_Hall) and [Wigmore Hall](/source/Wigmore_Hall), among many other venues.  They have toured the UK many times, made ten tours of the [United States](/source/United_States) and performed in Canada, Mexico, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Greece & Turkey. The orchestra made its debut in China, in the Beijing Festival in May 2017.
