**Hannes Heide** (born 17 October 1966) is an Austrian politician who was elected as a [Member of the European Parliament](/source/Member_of_the_European_Parliament) in [2019](/source/2019_European_Parliament_election_in_Austria).[3]

## Political career

In parliament, Heide has been serving on the [Committee on Culture and Education](/source/Committee_on_Culture_and_Education) since 2019. In 2022, he joined the Committee of Inquiry to investigate the use of [Pegasus](/source/Pegasus_(spyware)) and equivalent surveillance [spyware](/source/Spyware).[4][5] Since 2024 Heide is a vice-chair of [AJC](/source/AJC_Transatlantic_Institute) Transatlantic Friends of Israel.[6][7]

In addition to his committee assignments, Heide has been part of the Parliament's delegation to the [ACP–EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly](/source/ACP%E2%80%93EU_Joint_Parliamentary_Assembly).[8] He is also a member of the URBAN Intergroup[9] and the European Parliament Intergroup on Western Sahara.[10]
