**Hanna Siniora** ([Arabic](/source/Arabic_language): حنا سيفرا; born 6 November 1937) is a [Palestinian](/source/Palestinian_people) [Christian](/source/Palestinian_Christian) who lives in [East Jerusalem](/source/East_Jerusalem). He is the publisher of *[The Jerusalem Times](/source/The_Jerusalem_Times)* and a co-[Chief Executive Officer](/source/Chief_Executive_Officer) of the [Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information](/source/Israel%2FPalestine_Center_for_Research_and_Information).[1] He is also a member of the [Palestine National Council](/source/Palestine_National_Council) and the chairperson of the [Palestinian-American](/source/Palestinian-American) Chamber of Commerce.[2]

An early proponent of dialogue and negotiations with [Israel](/source/Israel), Siniora has a long history of involvement in pro-[peace](/source/Peace) activities.[1] For his lifetime commitment to working towards Palestinian-Israeli peace, he was awarded the [Order of the Knights of Malta](/source/Venerable_Order_of_Saint_John).[3]

## Biography

Born in Jerusalem in 1937, Siniora completed his [Bachelor of Science](/source/Bachelor_of_Science) in [pharmacy](/source/Pharmacy) at a university in [Benares](/source/Benares), [India](/source/India) in 1969, at which time he returned to the [West Bank](/source/West_Bank). In February 1974, he was asked to manage the [Arabic language](/source/Arabic_language) newspaper *Al Fajr* after its editor-in-chief, Yusuf Nasr, was kidnapped. He established an [English language](/source/English_language) version of *[Al Fajr](/source/Al_Fajr_(Jerusalem))* in 1980 and served as its editor, and was later granted the position of editor-in-chief of the Arabic-language version in 1983.[4]

Siniora was the fourth supported leader among the [Palestinians](/source/Palestinian_Americans) living in the US according the results of a survey carried out in 1988.[5] Siniora is a [Roman Catholic](/source/Roman_Catholic).[6]
