The **Hanmer River** is a river in the [Hurunui District](/source/Hurunui_District) of New Zealand. It originates in the [Hossack Saddle](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hossack_Saddle&action=edit&redlink=1) between the [Hanmer Range](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hanmer_Range&action=edit&redlink=1) and the [Amuri Range](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Amuri_Range&action=edit&redlink=1), and flows south-west into the [Waiau Uwha River](/source/Waiau_Uwha_River) about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) south-west of [Hanmer Springs](/source/Hanmer_Springs).[1][2]
