For the villages in Iran, see [Hamun, Iran](/source/Hamun%2C_Iran) and [Hamand, Khusf](/source/Hamand%2C_Khusf).

Not to be confused with [Hamun Lake](/source/Hamun_Lake).

A **hamun** (or hamoun) ([Persian](/source/Persian_language): هامون *hāmūn*) is an inland desert lake or marshland formed as a natural seasonal reservoir in areas adjoining the Helmand basin, found across eastern [Iran](/source/Iran), southern [Afghanistan](/source/Afghanistan) and western [Pakistan](/source/Pakistan).[1] Hamuns form a critical link in the wildlife of the area, aquatic as well as avian and terrestrial.

The better-known hamuns include:

- [Hamun-e Helmand](/source/Hamun-e_Helmand), Afghanistan and Iran - [Hamun Lake](/source/Hamun_Lake), Iran and Afghanistan

- [Hamun-e Jaz Murian](/source/Hamun-e_Jaz_Murian), Iran

- Hamun-e [Mashkel](/source/Mashkel) or Mashkid, Balochistan mainly in Pakistan and border.

- Hamun-e Puzak, Afghanistan

- Hamun-e Saberi in [Sistan](/source/Sistan), straddling Iran-Afghanistan border

- Hamun Zeheh, Goad-i Zereh or [Godzareh Depression](/source/Godzareh_Depression), Afghanistan
