Hamraia is near [Chott Melrhir](/source/Chott_Melrhir), a large [endorheic](/source/endorheic) salt lake that lies to the north of the town. The lake and its surrounds, including the town of Hamraia, lie below sea level. Another salt lake, [Chott Felrhir](/source/Chott_Felrhir), lies to the southwest of Hamraia.

Hamraia is on the N48 which connect [El Oued](/source/El_Oued) to [Still](/source/Still%2C_El_Oued). From Still, the N3 leads south to [Touggourt](/source/Touggourt) and north to [Biskra](/source/Biskra).
