In 2015, with a 2.20 m high jump best at the age of 18, Ali left [Saudi Arabia](/source/Saudi_Arabia) to train in [Doha, Qatar](/source/Doha%2C_Qatar) with [Mutaz Essa Barshim](/source/Mutaz_Essa_Barshim). Ali competed in a number of regional international championships starting in 2016, when he won the bronze medal at the [IAAF World U20 Championships](/source/2016_IAAF_World_U20_Championships_%E2%80%93_Men's_high_jump).
